Gulf Shores is approximately 28 square miles located along the Gulf of Mexico in southern Alabama. Located in Baldwin County which has experienced rapid growth, Gulf Shores has a population of approximately 10,000.
Being a coastal destination community, Gulf Shores depends on tourism to play a larger role in its economy. Beautiful beaches to enjoy, fishing, boating and golfing are among the most popular activities in the area. Chartered fishing trips, dinner cruises and dolphin watching are all part of the regular draws. For the golf connoisseur, two of the top-rated resorts in the state are located here being Craft Farms and Kiva Dunes.
Additional attractions for the area go above and beyond sports. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is also located in the town. Born out of Hurricane Ivan, the Gulf Coast Zoo is the centerpiece for the mini-series “The Little Zoo that Could” featured regularly on Animal Planet and PBS. Excellent shopping can be experienced at Pelican Place at Craft Farms or Tanger Outlet shopping center with many, many designer outlets. Waterville is an excellent water park for family outings. Gulf State Park is expanding and developing an Eco-Tourism Center. The 89 Million dollar renovation begins this year and will culminate with a new convention center located directly on the Gulf. The park also features “Glamping”……Glamorous Camping.
Care to just relax and enjoy? Gulf Shores is home to the annual three-day music festival on the beach every May better known as the Hangout Music Festival. Pull up your corner of the beach and enjoy many different genres of music including hip hop, rock, indie, and dance music. There have been many well-known artists who have performed here including The Dave Matthews Band, Tom Petty, and Paul Simon.
