Perdido Key is located between Pensacola Florida and Orange Beach Alabama. “Perdido” meaning “lost” in Spanish, the area is a barrier in northwest Florida that in most points is only a few hundred yards wide and stretches approximately 16 miles long. Historically the area was referred to as Gulf Beach and overtime evolved into Perdido Key.
It has an estimated 300 natural springs that are scattered throughout. In fact, there were so many that at the time of construction of certain bridges it made for challenges that had to be overcome. The natural landscape has approximately 60% of it being protected by federal or state parks. In 1978 the National Park Service had completed a purchase of over 1,000 acres to help preserve its natural beauty.
Today the preserved area offers the opportunity for hiking, kayaking, bird watching, and even dolphin and sailing tours. Some have spotted foxes and blue herons in the wild as part of the uniqueness of the natural habitat. Both hosted or self-guided tours of natural trails allow one to fully experience what the area has to offer.
Real estate is located mostly on the beachside with many luxury and ultra-luxury properties to choose from.
