"Part food truck park, part art installation, part front porch for the whole neighborhood." That is how The Grid describes itself. The site started as an empty lot off Taylor Road with a few shipping containers. According to the venue, Russ Dunford pictured a community hub in Hampton Cove in 2019, and the project got going as a COVID-era place where people could safely get together.
That origin explains this October. Look at where Hampton Cove's fall events are actually held and nearly every address belongs to a private host: Dunford's lot, the back lawn at Cove Church, and the fairways of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. None of the events found for this month run out of a civic building or a public square. The neighborhood's social calendar is spread across a handful of private properties, and the one built on purpose as a gathering place has a weekly schedule of exactly three hours.
A front porch that opens at 9 and closes at noon
The Grid's main event is its Saturday Farmers Market. It runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, admission is free, and the venue says there's live music most Saturday mornings. The market page says its produce, meats and other farm goods are "all grown within 100 miles of the Cove," with bread, baked goods, coffee, candles and ceviche on the artisan side.
The 100-mile line is a real limit. It ties the market's produce to the surrounding region, and the vendor list reads like it. The Grid's current roster names 13 Saturday vendors:
- Produce and farm goods: Apollo Acres, Farm 47, Howling Fresh Farm, Sand Mountain Harvest, Short Creek Homestead
- Bakeries and sweets: Cozy Cove Bakery, Miche Miche Bakery, Cookie Cake Command
- Coffee: Coffee Break, Park & Perk
- Prepared food and gifts: Papa's Ceviche, Rocket City Charm & Charcuterie, Michaelangelo Candles
The site's food page lists two food trucks, The Biscuit Express and Nachos Mexican Food Truck, and has Coffee Break pouring on Saturdays. Flippin' Filipino has also announced that it's at The Grid on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. These rosters come from undated pages on the vendors' and venue's own sites, so a given truck may skip a given week.
The directory doesn't list a bar or a sit-down restaurant. Apart from the market, the public events page shows private bookings and points visitors to The Grid's social media for updates. In practice, the front porch is a Saturday-morning porch. On a normal week, the hours when it's open to everyone are the market hours.
The one afternoon on the calendar
That's why one date stands out. On Sunday, October 18, from 1 to 4 p.m., The Grid hosts The Cove Wine Festival. It's the only October event on the venue's calendar.
The festival is put on by ChurchStreet Wine Shop Downtown under the banner "ChurchStreet Family Presents." Tickets are $65 including fees, and the event page promises tastings of 50 wines, live music, and local artisan and specialty vendors. You can buy tickets through the Cove Wine Festival event page. The web address says October 17, but the page itself, and the venue calendar, both list Sunday the 18th.
The festival follows the same pattern as the rest of the month. A downtown wine shop brings an afternoon program to a privately built Hampton Cove lot. The Grid has worked with outside partners from the beginning. A 2023 Huntsville Business Journal profile said Dunford teamed up with local resident Brad Garland and Cove Monkey on the early food-truck events that got the space going.
The address shows up two ways. The festival listing and Flippin' Filipino use 211 Taylor Lane SE, and The Grid's contact page uses 211 Old Taylor Rd SE. Both point to the same lot.
Where the rest of October happens
Once you're past The Grid, the month's events are split between two other private hosts on Old Highway 431, about a short drive apart.
Cove Church, 366 Old Highway 431, is hosting two of the month's family events on its own grounds.
Lakehouse Family Night is Friday, October 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Cove Church back lawn. The listing promises s'mores, snacks, pumpkin carving and lawn games. Nine days later, on Sunday, October 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., the church holds Trunk or Treat: Special Vehicles Edition, with decorated trunks, games, candy, a SWAT BearCat and a fire truck. One family events site lists the Trunk or Treat on October 26. The church's own page says the 25th, so plan around that date.
The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove, 450 Old 431 Highway, has two charity tournaments on back-to-back Fridays. The first, The Gregg Berens Memorial: I Golf Because I CARE Golf Tournament, is October 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's posted on the Cove Church events calendar, which links the church and the golf course on the same day. The second, the 14th Annual Kids to Love Golf Tournament, is October 23. The organizer's event page and the Huntsville/Madison County CVB listing give different hours, so check the start time with Kids to Love before signing up a foursome.
Friday the 16th is the month's busiest day in Hampton Cove. The golf tournament ends at 4 p.m., and Lakehouse Family Night starts an hour later at 366 Old Highway 431. Both events are hosted by private institutions on adjacent stretches of Old 431.
October, laid out by weekend
Put together, the month looks like this. The Saturday market dates assume The Grid's every-Saturday schedule holds, and the venue says to check its social media for weekly details.

October 31 is a Saturday this year. If the weekly schedule holds, Halloween starts with a market morning at The Grid. No separate Halloween event shows up on The Grid's public listings, though. Across all three hosts, the only Halloween-themed event found is Cove Church's Trunk or Treat the Sunday before.
The newest storefront is on 431
One retail addition stands out on the corridor this season. The Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau's September restaurant roundup reported that 7 Brew opened in July at 6486 Hwy 431 S in Owens Cross Roads. A July national roundup had listed the location's planned opening for July 13. The drive-thru coffee stand gives the 431 corridor another coffee stop alongside the Saturday-only coffee vendors at The Grid. As of the CVB's September roundup, no other new restaurant or shop on this stretch had been reported.
None of this October happens at a town hall or a municipal plaza. Saturday mornings are at The Grid, Friday the 16th belongs to the golf course and the church lawn, the 18th is the wine festival's afternoon, and the 25th ends with a SWAT BearCat in the Cove Church parking lot.
Places like The Grid don't show up in a listing's square footage, but they shape what a Hampton Cove address is like to live at, and a property's marketing should show that. If you're thinking about how to present your Hampton Cove home, including the Saturday mornings and fall evenings around it, Donna Burns builds that story into every listing campaign.
